From Community College Professor To First Lady of the United States

January 20, 2021 - Joe Biden was inaugurated and declared the 46th president of the United States, making Jill Tracy Jacobs Biden the first lady of the United States.

Gaining the title of First Lady is an astonishing accomplishment but is most definitely not her first. Dr. Jill Biden has a long list of accomplishments that revolve around her history of being involved in education and being an educator. Reflecting on her educational journey inspires us to see how far academics could truly take us.

Dr. Jill Biden has always striven to succeed and be the best version of herself she could possibly be. Her goals of success have brought her to attend many different schools to obtain an impressive number of degrees involving her passion for education and teaching. She graduated with her bachelor's degree in English at the University of Delaware in 1975. In 1981, she obtained her first master's degree in education with a specialty in reading after graduating from West Chester University. She would later graduate from Villanova University, obtaining her second master's degree in English. In January 2007, Dr. Jill Biden graduated from the University of Delaware earning her final degree, a Doctor of Education in educational leadership.

Along with having an impressive number of degrees, Dr. Jill Biden has worked at many different educational institutions. In 1976, she started her first English teaching position at St. Mark's High School. She later then started working as a reading specialist at Claymont High School. Dr. Biden has also had experience teaching English at Rockford Center psychiatric hospital. She has also had experience teaching at the public school Brandywine High School. Her most recent occupation was when she taught as a community college professor at Northern Virginia Community College.

Dr. Jill Biden is an individual dedicated to the field of teaching. While her husband Joe Biden was serving his time as Vice President, Dr. Jill Biden held her title of being a community college professor along with being the second lady of the United States. Even now that the second lady has now become the first lady, she continues to teach as a professor. During the time she served as the second lady, Dr. Biden often advocated for community college and education for women in all parts of the world. She held the three-day "Community College to Career" bus tour. She has visited many schools, including a school she once taught at, Brandywine High School (as shown in the image to the bottom right of this page). Dr. Jill Biden has fond memories of teaching at Brandywine High School and every institution she has been able to teach at. She continues to promote education to all and inspire us all to continue learning more and never stop learning.
