What Our RWC Tutors Are Thankful For

RWC Tutor Luis Barba interviewed a few tutors about the things that they are thankful for this year.

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on our blessings and embrace our thankfulness. Our Reading and Writing Center has many great tutors who have tons of gratitude. Here’s some of what we are thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday!

Ulysses: I'm thankful for having friends and family in my life who are supportive of everything I choose to do. I am also thankful for being able to have such rad coworkers.

Jann: I am thankful for my cats. I have a grey cat named Gatzby and a black one called Sirius. I have had Gatz for five years and Sirius for 3. My brotherrescued Sirius; he was a stray kitten in my apartment complex when he found him. Fun fact about Gatz: he is the grandchild of my old cat Felicia, whom I had to give away. They are big troublemakers, but they make up for it by being cute. I am extremely grateful for them.

Paula: I'm thankful for my husband, mainly because he works on all the vehicles. I do not want to scrape my back on the cold (or hot), hard ground so my family can drive to work, school, or out for fun. He doesn't complain when he's only gotten 4 hours of sleep but knows he has to change the oil in my car after work on a hot day in July. Sometimes, after a 16-hour shift, he will take 15 minutes to slide under our Chevy Cruze to see if there is one more adjustment, extraction, or installation he can finish beforegoingtobed.Sure,he'llgrowl, speak to his imaginary assistant, or scold the manufacturers for their design flaws, but never once will he swear, take the Lord's name in vain, or yell at the dogs for getting up in his business; instead, when he's had enough, he thoroughly explains to us girls what he accomplished, or didn't accomplish, which we then listen as if we completely understand what he's talking about.

Audrey: I am thankful for my supportive family and friends. I have so many opportunities in my life to be thankful for.

Mat: I am most grateful for the opportunity to be around my family during Thanksgiving. Most years, we alternate doing Thanksgiving here and flying back to South Carolina to see my family that lives there. Thanksgiving is usually the only time of year we get to see them, so that is always nice. I will always be grateful for having a (relatively) low-stress occasion to get together with the people I love and eat good food.

Luis: I am personally thankful for everyone in my life that helps uplift me. Remember to surround yourself with people who make a positive impact on you! Enjoy this Thanksgiving holiday, and remember to thank the blessings in your life.
