RWC tutor Audrey Bergen gives some tips to relax and unwind to celebrate this day.
May 8th is Reward Yourself Day. It is an occasion to practice self-care, treat yourself, and take time to relax and be in the moment. Here are some fun and easy ways to treat yourself this year.
Ideas for Rewarding & Relaxing Activities:
Yoga:
Yoga and other forms of exercise can be relaxing and contribute to mental wellness as exercising releases endorphins and serotonin that can elevate one’s mood. Consider practicing your favorite form of exercise, whether it’s biking, running, or doing yoga. These forms of exercise can be done independently or at a gym or yoga studio.
Journaling:
Journaling is an activity that can help process emotions, give you something to look back at, and serve as a positive outlet. Journaling can also be used as an outlet for creative expression such as poetry and as a way to organize information and keep track of goals and your progress towards them.
Treat Yourself:
Whether there’s a movie in theaters you’ve been wanting to watch, an item that’s been sitting in your shopping cart for weeks, or a favorite restaurant or coffee shop you haven’t visited in too long, take the opportunity to treat yourself to something nice. It's important that you treat yourself once in a while. Although it may seem selfish, it's not. You deserve it!
Self Care:
Self care looks different for every individual. If taking a bath with
calming bath salts is your thing, go for it! If manicures are more your style, paint away. In general, practicing self care usually involves a relaxing activity that allows you to unwind, de-stress, and recharge. Some additional ideas for self care include meditation, using a face mask, getting a massage, practicing aromatherapy, and even cooking your favorite meal.
Celebrating Yourself:
Whatever you decide to do to commemorate Reward Yourself Day, use it as a reminder of all the hard work you do in your school, personal, and professional life, and as a way to re-energize for these and other aspects of your life. Remember that you are worthy, you are capable, and you are more than enough.
