November 2025 "Organization Does Not Equal Perfection" by Estefani Gordillo

ree

Assignment one. Check. Assignment two. Check. Assignment three. Check. Each of these assignments is the reason we go treasure hunting. We have goals in life, and yes, it is hard. This is why we have to find every excuse and every motive to move that pencil towards our paper and those fingers towards our keyboards. Organization helps us know what we have to do and when we have to get things done. I am truly aware that many of you reading this may not struggle with planning for the future, but you must keep reading anyway. Ultimately, being able to get things done and feel proud of it gives you independence and the self-control to do even more for yourself. Once you turn organization into one of your habits, it turns into a skill that helps you improve in managing your time and helps you self-reflect on what priorities need to be met first. Do not worry if one way of organizing yourself does not work as well as it should. There are multiple ways to do this, and each is valid. So please give this a try! Before you know it, you will be sitting in your bed looking at your progress. Assignment one. Check. Assignment two. Check. Assignment three. Check.

Organization does not equal perfection. There are many ways to plan the final weeks left in the semester. I can tell you all from experience that planning may not be the best skill in my book, but it is the most necessary. I believe in the importance of organization, and I cannot express this enough! We hear left and right about the necessity of being organized and planning a firm schedule that will meet our needs. But the problem arises even before beginning to organize. Sometimes, we have so many roads to lead us to the end of the mountain that we cannot make room to think of a way to organize which roads to take first. Stress contributes to the anxiety of getting started on planning and organizing. If I have learned anything in life, it is that it’s always better to try something than to do nothing. Think of this as trying to guide yourself to a treasure hunt you are excited about. Whatever is in the treasure chest will be because that is the prize you heard of and wished to follow. The path we decide to take should feel worthy to us. So it is important to start practicing the true meaning of organization. Organization does not equal perfection.

I cannot complain. Although my habits are not the best, I have tried a lot of things to help me improve on procrastination. OH NO! There’s that word. That hideous beast that gets hold of your dreams. As a tutor, I have caught myself doing this throughout the semester. I do not confess this for gratitude, but rather to raise awareness that anything in life can get in the way of keeping our priorities in check. In the blink of an eye, we sit in our bed, wondering where did time go and why is this assignment due tonight when it felt like we had an entire week. Then comes the stress, anxiety, and shame that come to eat us alive for the next hours and days. Yet, I cannot complain.
