March 2025 "Quick Write" by Sebastian Cabrera

Sebastian Cabrera

My first image can be described as a wooden background, maybe a block of wood, with two dents vertical to each other. The picture also contains a singular screw that has been hammered onto the wood next to the vertical dents. When I looked at the image, my mind immediately thought it was of a video game I love to play called “Grounded.” The concept of the game is simple, and its story goes like this: four kids are shrunk in a backyard, and you must survive the horrors that lurk beneath the grass. My brain automatically thinks of this video game due to one of the locations involving wooden planks and termites that infest inside of said wooden planks.

Speaking of termites, I never realized how powerful and scary they can be near any sort of wooden structure. For example, I watched a video on TikTok about a real estate agent looking at run-down houses; he noticed some of the floorboards were very weak and hollow. Upon further investigation, there was a whole termite nest eating the wood. Imagine if nobody caught these little abominations before making the home habitable. Another memory sparked when looking at the card was when I would help my parents with any sort of makeshift item. For example, I have stands for instruments in a room we call “the music room.” These stands would go against the wall to hang instead of being on the floor. To be honest, it gives a cool vibe and frees a ton of space for additional equipment. My dad would always tell me to be careful when it comes to using nails, hammers, or anything relating to crafting.

My next image: Spoons

Eating utensils are some of the greatest inventions mankind has ever made and rank next to the backscratcher! I don’t know how children from the age of 8 months to 3 years of age can grab almost anything without care. If I touch a mushy substance like spaghetti sauce, I will do everything in my power to get rid of that feeling. I know some cultures require using your hands to eat, that is a cultural norm for them, which is cool, - but I don’t prefer it. The only exception I can see myself eating a messy meal would be BBQ ribs. Those are the pinnacle of a cookout and the one messy food I don’t mind. Getting BBQ sauce on my hands is just worth it!
