Location, Location, Location !
Long papers can cause a person to procrastinate. Often, when we need to do an essay, research paper, or anything related to writing, it's easy to ignore. We may have all the information we need to start the paper, but lack the motivation to write it. Something I recently discovered to help push me into writing was going to a location where I felt relaxed. One of my favorite spots is a very well known; it is a local coffee shop with free wifi and amazing air conditioning.
It's called Starbucks.
I discovered this writing haven when my friend and I went to study. Surprisingly, it really helped prevent writer's block and it helped keep me focused. To start my creative writing session, I picked out my favorite music list and opened up my writing platform. In the span of an hour, I had 700 words written. This place will not be for everybody, as some might not like the smell of coffee, people talking in the background, or the crowded environment. However, I encourage a Starbuck visit if you have any writer's block or are struggling to get through long papers during your studies.
Another study spot I recommended is the RWC located at Reedley college in the library. RWC has a big open space with multiple tables as well as great air conditioning. It has a section for computers if you forget your computer at home or forgot to charge. Something I just found out was how all the tables have an outlet to charge electronics with, so a dead laptop is no excuse for not getting after it. The reason I picked the RWC as a study spot to get through long papers is because of its accessibility to all students and tutors who encourage writing. The environment is very friendly with everybody working on assignments or enjoying the warm vibes of the RWC. Tutors are always available to help with writing assignments if you get stuck, and they can also help with reviewing essays.
Someone’s personal space can be a comfortable place to decompress after a long day of studying. An example of a personal space for many is someone's bedroom in their home or room where some might find comfort. A bedroom can provide mental stability as it’s a place where we personalize things we like. A few examples might be posters, bean bags, creative area, bookshelf, legos, or even a diffuser. A well decorated room filled with personal items can help provide tranquility. I would suggest a diffuser as It is a good to have for a good aesthetic display with the mist and scents you can enjoy. I like to add droplets of peppermint or some kind of forest scent because it helps with relaxation. I’ve started to use it during my studies or long paper struggles.
Having a comfortable study space, is complemented by having a clean room as well. I’ve had times where my room was very messy with laundry piles, my blankets up to the ceiling, or my desk just being messy. It’s hard to study in a messy room. A clean space can help create a clear mind.
