Following the struggles of a top 40s radio station in Cincinnati, Ohio, WKRP is a sitcom that opens the door to the hilarious misadventures of the staff. Each character in this legendary sitcom possesses a unique quirkiness that brings the show to life. Their relatable office antics, which often lead to trouble, resonate with anyone who has ever worked in an office setting. Despite their differences, they must unite to ensure the radio station's success. Andy Travis, the general manager, desperately trying to improve the radio station, is met with constant roadblocks from his collection of employees, including, but not limited to, the out-of-touch owner, Mr. Carlson, the slobbish Disc Jockey, Dr. Johnny Fever, Les Nessman, the bow-tied news reporter, and Herb Tarleck, the boorish sales manager.
Every sitcom out there has Turkey Day comedy, but even with all the competition, WKRP in Cincinnati takes the cake with the most famous, dare I say legendary episode. In the Thanksgiving episode entitled “Turkeys Away", Mr. Carlson launches a Thanksgiving promotion of his own. With the aid of Herb and Les, the "Big Guy" turns a routine turkey giveaway into a comic catastrophe.
About the Episode:
In the episode, station manager Arthur Carlson cooks up an idea for a Thanksgiving promotion that entails dropping live turkeys from a helicopter over the Pinedale Shopping Mall. As three dozen live birds hurdle from the sky, things go really awry as they land on car windshields and concrete, making for a devastatingly brutal fate. WKRP Newsman Les Nessman and DJ Johnny Fever provide live coverage, much to listeners' horror. Amid the carnage, a mortified Carlson, covered in feathers, later delivered the hilarious, episode-ending line, "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!"
