Harris rose up the ranks, became a district attorney, and was narrowly elected attorney general of California. Harris’s speech at the Democratic National Convention uplifted her political career and led to her recruitment to run for the U.S. Senate seat previously held by Barbara Baker. In early 2015, Harris declared her candidacy, calling for an increase in the minimum wage, immigration reforms, and the protection of reproductive freedom, leading to her successful election in 2016. In 2020, Joe Biden selected Harris as his democratic running mate in the 2020 election. Upon the 2020 victory of the Biden-Harris Administration, Harris became the first female Vice President of the United States.
